The first Class 9 (14/15 years) commenced in September 2008, marking the start of a new Steiner upper school here in Bristol. This class was to become the first Class 10 (15/16 years) in September 2009. The upper school, which is located at the Redland Hill House site, follows the Steiner curriculum for these years. As well as class-based work and projects, students engage in a number of crafts from painting, woodwork and pottery to forge work, felting and basket making. Another important element of the upper school curriculum is project work undertaken on field trips away from the school. Children take GCSEs in English, Mathematics, Art, Science and (optional Additional Science) a Language in the second year (Class 10). The opening of the upper school meant that continuous Steiner education is available in Bristol from Parent and Child, Playgroup and Kindergarten through to 16 years. The upper school welcomes enquiries from children at Steiner schools overseas about the possibility of placements here in Bristol.
